Tetsuhiko remembered the exact moment the sunberry jam had splattered, a perfect purple starburst right on their cheek. Their partner, Ren, had pointed it out just as they assumed their post by the great fish statue in Waterfall City. They were supposed to be projecting an aura of determined vigilance. Instead, Ren was trying to discreetly wipe the jam away with their sleeve while Tetsuhiko practiced channeling light into a small, shimmering orb. “You can navigate by the same stars as Sutaraito,” Ren muttered, “but you can’t get toast from the plate to your mouth without casualties.” Tetsuhiko just grinned, the light in their palm flaring brightly. Ren sighed, gave up, and passed them a waterskin to wash their face.
